Week 66 Devlog: The Big Crunch Begins
This week saw us finally finish the story art (for now) for this update, and it's a good feeling. While I want to keep focusing on art, I feel a more pressing need to have the stats, skills, enemies, and equipment balanced. To that end, from this week on, there will be a lot of changes to the stats coming. I've already rebalanced the Player's health to strike them down a peg, you now start with 120 HP (enemy damage will be balanced accordingly, as well as health).
Zeph has gotten the last of the series of a particular boss fight done, but I won't be showing the results of this week's progress because of well, spoilers.
Nothing from our composer this week and I'm expecting that to remain the case for a little bit, but I will let you all know if I hear from him.
In any event, let's talk more on the balancing of the game and where things are gonna head. So for starters, the stats of pretty much everything is getting crunched. It'll be a very big deal if you can inflict 1000 damage on an equal strength opponent, and early game should see health pools more in the 100 - 1000 HP range for most enemies. Mid to late I'm hoping will be more on the order of 1000 - 2000~.
There will be lots more equipment to choose from, both in terms of armor, and of weapon types your class can wield, each with a pro and con. Expect a generally more decisive battle system with stronger enemies being able to put you down quicker, and you needing to weigh your options *carefully*.
There will be more places to go for loot, and rare items will appear in certain existing stores and new ones alike, so look forward to a lot more ways to play.
I will be looking to additionally refine the combat mechanics of the actual party so that no one feels left out in this update, so between all of this, expect a more robust in general combat system with a more fair but challenging difficulty curve that doesn't wind up absurd when you kill all bosses with no degree of difficulty.
