Tears of Morganna - Demo and Initial Devlog


Hello everyone, and my name is AoDLegacy. I'm an overly ambitious person, and this is my second project on Itchio. It's been a fun few weeks setting up this project and getting its demo good to go, I spent a good amount of time and care trying to get this initial version right.

Here's what you all are in for:

  • 2 Hours of Gameplay, depending on how thorough you play or how much you blitz. 
  • Heavily story based content - there is equal parts action, but this is a story driven adventure.
  • Active Time Progress Combat - Your Agility is one of your most important strengths or flaws. Harassing your enemy's turn order is of great benefit to you here. Think with your head to get the most out of your gameplay experience.
  • Fun and diverse cast

Let's talk about long term. I started this a few weeks ago to get a vague idea I've wanted to do for a while that explores a bit of my cosmic lore that connects many games/game ideas together, specifically some of the concepts of the Elemental Plane (called the Primal Realm) out of my head. This is very much a side project but rest assured this isn't a basic RPG Maker game for all eternity. Custom music and assets will be generated and I already have a very strong concept of what I want for this game. There's a whole game design document which has the story concept pretty much figured out.

This is more or less my current tileset and sprite capabilities, so expect something similar or a bit more polished than this.



First things first is going to be figuring out asset creation for a side view system as this is my first go at such a system (I usually deal in normal turn base with no animated sprites) so this will be a unique challenge. After that,  once I have a feeling for the style and base design concepts for the assets, I'll move toward expanding the database to include Enemy, Tileset, and minor characters.

I'm either going to make the maps for the demo 1 to 1 for the full game or do my best to callback to my designs in the full game, as some had good ideas and some were really meh considering default limitations.

I'm really excited to get into this project, and just like my other project, I will be doing regular weekly devlogs (double the work, double the fun right) to keep you updated on what I am (or am not) doing.

I invite you all to please let me know what you think of this demo, what you would like to see from this project, and how I can improve. I really am excited to hear from you all because I have never worked with anything but Standard Turn Base so this was a unique challenge to work with. This might be a new favorite combat system.
